Elderly Driver who Died in Ludlow Car Accident Identified

LUDLOW, Mass. (WGGB) — The elderly man involved in a Tuesday afternoon car crash in Ludlow who later died as a result of his injuries has been identified as 75 year-old, Antonio Dias from Ludlow.

The accident happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and involved two-cars on East Street near Ventura Streets.

The impact of the crash caused one of the cars to catch fire.

Dias who was driving a white 2004 Kia Amanti Sedan was taken to Baystate Medical Center immediately following the accident. The driver of the other vehicle, 47 year-old, Robert Puliafico was not injured.

Puliafico was driving a gray 2007 Ford E-250 Van. Both vehicles have been placed in impound.

Ludlow Police Sgt. Daniel Valadas tells ABC40 News, “Preliminarily at least, there are no charges expected at this time against Puliafico, but ultimately that’s up to the reconstruction team.”

Valadas says the medical examiner’s office will be conducting an autopsy on Dias.

Traffic was detoured both east and westbound on East Street, around the accident scene, for 3 hours while Ludlow and State Police investigated and reconstructed the accident.
