Workforce Summit Held in Sturbridge

STURBRIDGE, Mass. (WGGB) — Brainstorming new ways to bring about new jobs.

That was the message at the third annual Job and Workeforce Summit in Sturbridge today

Those in attendance heard from a number of workforce leaders about new policies designed to create better job compettiton all across the state.

Some of the ideas discussed included a greater focus on internships and student career planning, making better use of new technology, and increasing employees’ skill sets.

Organizers say the state is moving in the right direction.

“Our message is also that we have to do a better job. We can still do better….more creative, more innovative, Put more people back to work,” says Loh-Sze Leung, director of Skillworks/Workforce Solutions.

Boston Mayor Tom Menino was also honored for his work in encouraging job growth for high school students in the city.
