Police Investigate Spencer Woman’s Death

SPENCER, Mass. (AP) — A brother-in-law of a woman found dead in her Spencer apartment has been held on $100,000 bail on a charge of misleading police investigating her death.

Twenty-one-year-old Steven West pleaded not guilty Thursday at his arraignment in East Brookfield District Court.

The body of 21-year-old Alyssa Haden was discovered Wednesday. Authorities say Haden lived in the apartment with West and her twin sister, who are married. Haden’s death remains under investigation.

The Telegram & Gazette of Worcester reports that a prosecutor said it is too early in the investigation to determine of West would face more charges. West’s court-appointed lawyer said it was unclear to him what West had done to mislead police.

Members of West’s family shouted at reporters outside court that he is innocent before driving away.
