Springfield Fire Warns of Fundraising Calls

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – Springfield fire officials are warning residents of an unauthorized solicitation going around, asking people for donations to the department.

Dennis Leger, Executive Aide to Springfield’s Fire Commissioner, says that the fire department has received several calls from residents asking if it was conducting a fundraiser.

Several residents have indicated that the caller is asking for donations and are identifying themselves as firefighters raising money for the Springfield Fire Department.

Leger notes that the fire department has not authorized, sanctioned, or endorsed any current telephone solicitation campaign.
