Judge: Suspect Accused of Strangling UNH Student

By HOLLY RAMER and BRIDGET MURPHY, Associated Press

DOVER, N.H. (AP) — A prosecutor says authorities could spend several more days searching the waters off an island for the body of a University of New Hampshire student.

Police have charged 29-year-old Seth Mazzaglia, of Dover, with second-degree murder in the death of Elizabeth “Lizzi” Marriott.

Mazzaglia was ordered held without bail Monday. He’s accused of strangling or suffocating the 19-year-old from Westborough, Mass., on Oct. 9, the night she disappeared.

Senior Assistant Attorney General Jane Young said Monday that while authorities believe Marriott was killed in Dover, the search remains focused on the waters around Peirce Island in Portsmouth.

She says Mazzaglia and Marriott knew each other but would not say what led to Mazzalgia’s arrest.
