Minor Earthquakes not that Uncommon

Springfield, Mass (WGGB) Yesterday’s 4.0 earthquake, centered 30 miles west of Portland, Maine was felt, by some, even here in western Massachusetts. There was no damaage reported across the area however it certainly gave us something to talk about.

You may be surprised to know that minor earthquakes are NOT all that uncommon for New England.  Small earthquakes occur every so often across the area. Large earthquakes however are much less common.

The dots on the map represent earthquakes that have hit the area. The larger the box/dot the larger the earthquake.
