UMass Loses Homecoming Game 24-0 to Bowling Green

FOXBORO, Mass. (WGGB) — The Falcons of Bowling Green played spoiler on UMass for their homecoming by shutting out the Minuteman 24-0 at Gillette Stadium.

Bowling Green striked first with a 16 yard touchdown pass from Shaun Joplin to Matt Schilz in the first quarter.

The game stayed 7-0 into halftime.

Bowling Green then opened things up in the third. Two touchdowns in 51 seconds broadened their lead to 21-0.

UMass quarterbacks Mike Wegzyn and A.J. Doyle combined to go 13-for-34 passing with four interceptions.

Meanwhile, Bowling Green’s Joplin went 21-for-36 with only one interception.

A 42-yard field goal by Tyler Tate in the fourth finished off Bowling Green’s scoring for the afternoon, putting the Falcons up 24-0.

The Minuteman drop to 0-7 on the season (0-4 Conference), while the Falcons move to 5-3 (3-1 Conference).

UMass plays on the road next week against Vanderbilt. Kick-off is at 7:00 p.m.
