Local Restaurants Part Of Ameristar Plan

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Ameristar’s plan for a resort casino could mean big business for some local restaurants.

The third casino developer released plans for a Springfield resort casino Tuesday.

The 910 million dollar plan would put a 150,000 square foot casino on Page Boulevard at the former Westinghouse site.

Frigo’s restaurant in Springfield and Schermerhorn’s in Holyoke have committed to having restaurants in the complex and they’re in good company with Jerry Remy and Wolfgang Puck also committing to the project.

Schermerhorn’s owner says he’s honored to be included.

“They came in, they say they searched the region for a seafood operation. They like ours, they liked the quality and the presentation,” said owner Mike Fitzgerald.

MGM announced plans for a casino in Springfield back in August and Penn National Gaming released plans about two weeks ago.
