Mother, Son Hit by a Car on White Street in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A 46-year old woman and one of the 2 sons she was walking with were hit by a motor vehicle on White Street Wednesday afternoon.

The accident happened around 3:00 p.m. near the intersection of Grand Street and White Street.

Springfield Police Captain Collins told ABC40 News, “The driver of the car was going South on White Street.  Reportedly she thought she saw someone stepping out in front of her, swerved to the left, went across the road, and went onto the sidewalk where the 46 year-old woman was with her 2 sons. One of the kids heard a noise and jumped out of the way. The mother and other son were struck.”

Both were transported to the hospital.  The mother’s injuries are more serious, but police believe at this point they are not life threatening.

The driver of the vehicle is described as a woman in her 90′s.

The age of the 2 sons was not made immediately available by police.  Collins did say though that at least one is a teenager.

Police continue to investigation this situation.
