Sandy Now a Hurricane

Springfield, Mass (WGGB) - Sandy has strengthened into a Hurricane as she heads towards Jamaica. Sandy is south of the Island now with top winds of 80 mph and is moving at 13 mph to the NNE.

Hurricane Warnings are posted for Jamaica and Cuba. Tropical Storm Watches are now up for south-east Florida as well.  After making landfall on Cuba Sandy will likely continue to track north and head towards the Bahamas, off the Florida coast, by late Friday or early Saturday.

Sandy has the potential to interact with a cold front and get pulled west into the  mid-Atlantic or northeast U.S. as a huge wind and rain maker for the beginning of next week. It also has the potential cause huge waves and high surf with coastal flooding.

However, the computer models are “up in the air”, the jury is still out as to what, if any impact Sandy will have on our weather so stay tuned! We will be following it all closely!
