One Arrest Made in Agawam ‘Bottle Bomb’ Case

AGAWAM, Mass. (WGGB) – One person is under arrest for their alleged involvement in a string of ‘bottle bombs’ across town.

Agawam Police announced Thursday that they have made one arrest so far. The name or age of that suspect has not been released.

Agawam Police Detective Richard Light notes that the investigation is ongoing because his department has “other people of interest involved in this matter.”

Over the last several days, police received several calls reporting “pressure activated explosive devices using plastic soda bottles” found in mailboxes across town.

The devices were built out of soda bottles and contained some sort of caustic chemical. If these ‘bottle bombs’ were to go off, police note that they “can cause bodily injury and chemical burns.”

If someone does see any more devices like this in their mailbox, you are urged not to touch it or shake it, and simply call 911 immediately.

Police are also asking that if anyone has any information about these cases to police call them at (413) 786-4767.
