Wanted: Levi Jefferson Jr.

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) – Springfield Police say 30-year-old Levi Jefferson’s attack on his pregnant ex-girlfriend was so vicious it put her in the hospital for days. Jefferson is now wanted on several charges including attempted murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.

Police say the attack happened October 11th at the 23-year-old victim’s apartment complex near 663 State Street.

“She returned to her apartment to see her ex-boyfriend sitting in the living room.” Sgt. John Delaney of Springfield Police explains. He says the ex-boyfriend (Jefferson) had previously broken into the apartment so the door was unable to lock. “He had the excuse that he was there to look for his knife.”

The unexpected encounter soon erupted into violence. Police say Jefferson began choking the victim, to the point where she lost consciousness.

“When she came to, he started threatening her – saying she should be glad he didn’t have his knife.” Sgt. Delaney says.

But police say instead of a knife, Jefferson improvised and picked up a pair of household scissors. He began stabbing the victim in the legs.

“She was able to grab the scissors from him and get out into the hallway. When she did he tackled her to the ground.” Sgt. Delaney says.

The victim eventually was able to break free and run across the street to a gas station for help. She was taken to Baystate Medical Center. Levi Jefferson fled the scene and the police are actively looking for him. They say he’s probably in Western Mass, having previously lived in the Federal/Worthington Street neighborhood.
