MIAA Schools Approve State-wide Football Playoffs

Marlborough, MA (WGGB) — State Championships — coming to a high school near you.  The MIAA’s members schools voted in favor of a proposal that will bring a state-wide playoff plan to Massachusetts.

By a 161-131 vote, the present member schools of the MIAA voted to approve an amendment to the current playoff system.  This amendment will lead to six State champions in Massachusetts High School football.

Six divisions will be created, state-wide.  Western Mass will continue to maintain just four divisions (now Division II, III, IV, and V).  Those four Western Mass divisions will still crown Western Mass Champions.  But those winners will then advance to the State Semifinals. The Western Mass winners will play the Central Mass winners.  The winner of that state semifinal game will advance to the winner of Eastern Mass.  The final two teams will play for the State title, at Gillette Stadium.
