Police Arrest Man After Attacking a Bartender with a Hatchet

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WGGB) — Chicopee police have arrested the man responsible for an assault at the Dugout Cafe back in September.

Michael Lebert, 49, of 53 Melvin Street, Chicopee was arrested after he allegedly struck a bartender with a hatchet on September 21, 2012.

According to police, Lebert entered the bar that day around 10:30 in the morning and started striking the bartender more than six times before she was able to fight him off.

Lebert fled the scene but is now in police custody.

Chicopee police say that he is being charged with armed assault to murder and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
