Med Examiner: Enfield Teen Died of Smoke Inhalation

ENFIELD, Conn. (AP) — The Connecticut medical examiner’s office says a 13-year-old girl killed in an Enfield house fire died of smoke inhalation.

The Hartford Courant reports the finding on Hope Hartnett’s death was released Tuesday.

The medical examiner said her death Oct. 24 was accidental.

Shaker Pines Lake Fire Chief Charlie Macsata said the cause of the accidental fire that heavily damaged the girl’s home is still being investigated. Her body was found in her bedroom.

Hope’s mother and her mother’s boyfriend managed to escape after the fire broke out sometime after 11 p.m. Hope’s father, who was visiting his father nearby, and neighbors were unable to reach her through the flames.
