Remember to Check Your Smoke Detectors This Weekend
With the weather getting colder, fires are more common and the Agawam Fire Department has some tips on how to stay safe all year.
Lt. B.J. Calvi says “People should know not to disable their smoke detectors. Make sure their batteries are in good working order, they’ve got a smoke detector in every bedroom and outside every sleeping area. Also when you change the batteries in your smoke detectors, change the batteries in your carbon monoxide detectors at the same time.”
In addition to making sure you have working batteries in your detectors, you should replace the smoke detector itself every 10 years.
