Memorial Service Set for Easton Firefighter

EASTON, Conn. (AP) — A memorial service is set for an Easton firefighter killed in the line of duty during superstorm Sandy.

Lt. Russell Neary, president of the Easton Volunteer Fire Company, was clearing tree debris from a road on Monday when another tree fell on him.

Hundreds of firefighters are expected to gather in Easton for the service Saturday morning.

Gov. Dannel P. Malloy directed flags to fly at half-staff on Saturday in Neary’s honor.

Neary, who was 55, had served in the department for 10 years. He is survived by his wife and two daughters. He was one of three Connecticut residents killed during the storm.
