(WGGB) – The last run-in Springfield Police say they had with Jesus Rivera, the 20-year-old was firing off rounds in a city neighborhood known for drugs. Police say Rivera didn’t have a license for the gun. After his arrest he never showed up for his arraignment.
The incident happened in the early hours of January 1st. Police say two patrol officers noticed the gates to the Springfield Cemetery were left open.
“When the officers went to investigate, they heard 3 or 4 shots fired from the other side of the fence.” Springfield Police Sergeant John Delaney says. “Immediately, they spun the cruiser around and headed out of the cemetery.”
Police say when the patrol car got to the main road, Maple Street, the officers spotted a Honda with CT plates attempting to speed away from the scene. The neighborhood it had just left was Avon Place. The driver of the car was Jesus Rivera.
“The officers pulled the patrol car sideways, blocking the exit. They got out of the vehicle with weapons drawn.” Sgt. Delaney explains. He says Rivera quickly tried hiding the gun he was firing under the driver’s seat. “The officers made the occupants exit the vehicle. They found that gun and they found a second gun in the car.”
Currently, Jesus Rivera is in default. Police believe he may still be Springfield, his last known address was at Avon Place.
