BOSTON (AP) — Massachusetts residents have approved a new law legalizing medical marijuana.
The law eliminates state criminal and civil penalties for the medical use of marijuana by people with cancer, hepatitis C, Parkinson’s disease, Lou Gehrig’s disease, glaucoma, HIV, AIDS, Crohn’s disease, multiple sclerosis and other conditions.
Supporters say marijuana eases the suffering of people with debilitating diseases.
Opponents say the law is ripe for abuse and fraud. They fear there’s no effective way to regulate marijuana dispensaries to make sure only sick patients get the drug. And they say they saw Tuesday’s ballot question as the next step toward full legalization of marijuana.
In 2008, Massachusetts decriminalized possession of marijuana in amounts under 1 ounce.

You don’t get a “prescription” you get a license. And it’s better than people who are in constant excruciating pain taking large amounts of opioids every day.
I agree that people who are in constant pain should get a”license ” for use. But we all know it will not end there! Just hope it is more controlled than other states.
You people against this, your attitude has been denying real patients of a true treatment that WORKS for the symptoms it gets prescribed for. How would you like to be cursed with an ailment and your treatment left up to voters? Get your head out of the 20′s. Marijuana is the safest non-addicting “drug” that exists, and that includes every pill in the pharmacy.

I agree that medical marijuana has its place, but the question had OTHER areas that I didnt think were right. This will cause problems down the road. To bad all the stoners weren’t smart enough to read the whole question.

It is very effective for cancer patients, not only for pain but an appetite stimulater. Its not easy to get it. You have to have a LEGITIMATE reason /disease.
As the mother of a stage 3 cancer patient who has had a bone marrow transplant…..marijuana was a saving grace for my daughter..
Still illegal people. Federal law supersedes state law when state law is less strict. Marijuana is still considered a illegal substance by definition on federal level.

The cannabis plant could save the nations economy… Before its prohibition it was the largest textile crop used for so many things. The hemp oils could very well help with the nation’s oil crisis… It’s a naturally occurring plant. You can trip sack off of fresh morning glory seeds but you buy the seeds and grow your own harvest the seeds and get ****ed up… But that doesn’t threaten oil company’s pockets… Which brings me to the point of the nation’s economy, the tax revenue if federally legalized and controlled like alcohol would reach billions of dollars.
It’s a flower people, before our government altered our ecosystem and wiped it from its natural habitat it was a freely growing weed. With many benefits and no known serious health risks.
We have people getting prescribed dangerous anti depressants and other pills that cause cancer, heart failure, stroke, kidney failure, joint pain, swelling of the face, constipation, loss of appetite…
To all those who oppose marijuana both medicinally and recreationally, you should do some serious research about this beautiful plant that does nothing good for mankind.
No one has killed someone because they smoked a joint, no one has beaten his wife cuz he got stoned and violent. How many stoners do you see that aren’t pleasant or kind or at least a bit more open minded to the world and others
There’s never been a day I couldn’t function at work because I was too stoned, it never caused me to get hurt or crash my car. It actually heightens my focus… Which brings me to the point of add and adhd, children are thrown scripts for aderol and other drugs that make them not feel like themselves this society digusts me sometimes
But its ok to pump people full of synthetic lab made pills that have pages of warnings and side effects of DEATH, but marijuana is a product of a corporation designed to make someone millions… Oh wait its a gift from our mother earth, that does nothing but heal
