Blue Mass Honors Fallen Officers

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – The Springfield Diocese held a memorial “Blue” Mass to honor those killed in the line of duty.

The mass took place at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield.

Dennis Leger, aide to the Commissioner, says that this year’s mass is a little more special.

“We’re all being honored with a little special moment. A little different from past years so this makes this one a little extra special. And it really hits home because of the great loss to the community through these three fine officers.”

Three local officers were honored, including Springfield police officer Kevin Ambrose as well as a Westfield officer and a correctional officer who passed away from a heart attack while on the job.

This is the sixth “Blue” Mass the diocese has held to honor fallen heroes.
