Eight People Left Homeless after Franklin Street Fire

SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — Eight people are homeless this morning after a fire broke out at a three-story home in Springfield early Sunday.

Dennis Leger, Aid to the Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, says the fire at the home located at 386 Franklin Street started at 4:00 a.m. in the second floor, front bedroom.

Shortly thereafter flames engulfed all three stories of the home and firefighters spent most of the morning trying to put out the blaze.

“Five people on the second floor, and three people on the third floor are being assisted by the Red Cross,” explains Leger.

All eight people have been displaced as the home is a total loss.

Leger says they are still investigating what caused the fire to start.
