SPRINGFIELD (WGGB) — After the first fire this morning on Franklin Street in Springfield, firefighters were dispatched to a second fire on Suffolk Street that caused significant damage to a two-and-a-half story home.
The Springfield Fire Department received the call at 5:21 a.m. Sunday and responded immediately to the single family home located at 26 Suffolk Street.
Dennis Leger, Aid to the Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant, told ABC40 News, “When police first arrived they found 2 occupants out in the front of the house with soot on their faces. Both were taken by AMR to the hospital because of smoke inhalation.”
It took firefighters around an hour to put out the flames.
Leger says it appears to have started in the kitchen and was likely accidental. But he adds that the cause does remain under investigation.
Damage to the home is estimated to be $150,000.
No firefighters were injured in either of the two early morning fires on Sunday.
