Holyoke, Mass. (WGGB) — Monday night was the annual Freedom Fighters Boxing event at the Log Cabin in Holyoke and this year it was in honor of fallen Springfield Police Officer Kevin Ambrose.
In attendance were boxers from the Coast Guard, and Coast Guard Academy, Westover Air Force Base, the New York City Police Department, Otis Air Force Base, the UMass Boxing Team and other great boxers from around the New England area.
For the first time the event was dedicated to Officer Ambrose who was killed in the line of duty on June 4.
All proceeds will benefit his memorial fund and fellow officers say the event is a nice way to remember Ambrose.
“We hope to keep this event going every year and try to keep his name alive,” says Springfield Police Officer, Dean Fay.
Monday was also the 27th Anniversary of the deadly shooting of Springfield Police Officers Michael Schiavina and Alain Beauregard during a routine traffic stop.
