(CNN) — A release date has been set for the latest Blackberry operating system and phone.

The BlackBerry 10 will be launched on January 30th, according to a news release on Research in Motion’s website.

The new operating system has been delayed multiple times and is meant to be the linchpin of the company’s turnaround.

BlackBerry 10 is expected to bring the company’s mobile software and phones into closer competition with Apple and Google.

A January 30th event will mark the official launch of the operating system and the unveiling of the first two BlackBerry 10 smartphones.

Details on the smartphones and their availability will be announced at the event.
