Mass. Democratic Party Chairman Wins Another Term

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — Massachusetts Democratic Party Chairman John Walsh has been elected to a second four-year term.

The state Democratic Committee re-elected Walsh at its meeting in Springfield on Wednesday night.

Walsh was first elected to lead the state party in 2007. He also was campaign manager for Gov. Patrick’s 2006 re-election bid.

Walsh had said last week he would seek another term, following last week’s election of Elizabeth Warren to fill the U.S. Senate seat once held by the late Edward Kennedy. Republican Scott Brown won a key special election in 2010 to fill out Kennedy’s term.

Walsh said last week he’s committed to helping encourage a new generation of party leaders, and also pointed to upcoming elections, including another possible special Senate election if President Obama taps Sen. John Kerry for his cabinet.
