Drug Shortage PotentialSPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — In 2011, a record number of drugs — 251–were declared in “short supply” nationwide. This year, 100 drugs are on that growing list, especially after the New England Compounding Center closed, after it was linked to a deadly meningitis outbreak. The FDA warns that this year’s drug shortage could get worse.
One Chicopee doctor is offering up another reason.
“We have a lot of the population that are addicted to it. And I’m not so happy about it. I’m not one of them who encourages it at all,” says Dr. Sanjana Pai.
Drugs on that short supply list include morphine and epinephrine injections, which are used to treat allergic reactions.
