WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) – After a several month search and process, the Town of West Springfield has a new permanent top cop.
Tuesday, Mayor Gregory Neffinger announced that Captain Ronald Campurciani will serve as the town’s next police chief.
Campurciani has been serving as the town’s interim chief since former Chief Thomas Burke retired in March.
“There were three extremely qualified candidates; Captains Daniel Spaulding, Daniel O’Brien, along with Ronald Campurciani. All had unique qualifications and ideas to bring to the West Springfield Police Department,” Neffinger says in a statement.
The choice of Campurciani as the department’s permanent chief comes after several months of assessments from the MMA Consulting Group of Brookline and interviews with members of the town’s public safety commission.
Neffinger adds, “The process was very involved, yet knowing the importance of this appointment, it was well worth the time and effort. We wanted to make certain the Town of West Springfield would be best served and able to move into the future with a positive and pro-active police department.”
Neffinger and Campurciani says that three issues need to be addressed immediately, including better training, improved technology, and a renovated police facility.
