Truck Driver from Springfield Involved in Deadly CT Crash
November 21st, 2012
MIDDLEBURY, Conn. (AP) — State police say a Massachusetts woman was killed in a chain reaction crash on Interstate 84 east in Middlebury.
Police say 41-year-old Laurie Carvalho was killed after she slowed for traffic Tuesday afternoon and a tractor trailer rear-ended her SUV, setting off a series of collisions between four other cars.
According to a police report, another person was seriously hurt in the crash, while seven others sustained non-life threatening injuries.
It was not immediately clear Wednesday if the truck driver, Juan Martinez of Springfield, Mass., would face charges. A state police spokesman said the accident remained under investigation.

Wow so sad
So sad
Prayers to her family in their loss. Need strict laws with on truck drivers, they drive like they own the roads
That is just wretched :/ These truck drivers need to realize that the trucks they are driving in are like weapons ~ they can kill or seriously hurt someone if they aren’t careful :/
This is sad but not all truck drivers are like that. Some drivers really are professional and use what they were taught, especially to have A LOT of space between your vehicle and the vehicle in front of them. Laws are already strict for truck drivers. This is obviously a result of the driver following too close to the womans vehicle.
stricter laws for truck drivers???? yes some drive like theyre ******** but how about those jackass drivers driving crotchrockets or cars suvs whatever zipping thru traffic like its the indy 500 cutting off trucks and other cars yes this is a sad accident and i dont know the specifics other than the tragedy but everyone needs to stop blaming truckers cars whatever what would you do if trucks stop driving period how are you going to get your gasoline oil clothes food etc evryone needs to use common courtesy not just truck drivers everyone dont drive like ******** keep a safe distance and remember that trucks DO NOT STOP ON A DIME it takes longer for a truck to stop than a car motorcycle suv
This is just terrible. My heart goes out to her family. So young to be gone so soon. Truck driver should face charges he was obviously to close and a danger on the road. So sad to be reading this. God bless.
I’m a truck driver I feel bad for the lady that die. We have strict laws now. I just hate when people talk about us truck drivers.
none of you have a place to judge this because you were not there …. yes its traggic … butunless you have all the info shut your mouths and go attack someone else ….or are you all too week minded to think for yourselves
No where does it say he was tailgating her at all! I’m sorry for her families loss, but those trucks weigh a TON! They can’t just STOP when they hit the brakes. If she stopped too fast, her car can handle that. His can’t. Have you ever braked on the highway? It’s really hard for me to even stop my little car that fast. Please don’t place blame, because this story doesn’t say ANYWHERE he was driving to close or breaking ANY laws. They’re called accidents for a reason.
in control of your vehicle at all times , hitting someone from behind shows you did not have control of said vehicle. so the driver either was texting or tailgating . that is just facts . using the excuse the trucks are big and hard to stop , is a laugh . go back to drivers ed and learn how to drive again stephanie
Chris I’m assuming you drive trucks for a living and that’s why you know so much… Thx for letting us know how easy it is to stop a truck…
