Springfield Firefighters Battle Thanksgiving Morning Fire

Firefighters in Springfield extinguished a house fire this morning on Roosevelt Avenue. Dennis Leger, Executive Aide to Fire Commissioner Joe Conant, says it appears the fire started as a third story attic fire. Crews were able to quickly knock down the flames by ventilating the roof of the building. Leger tells ABC40 that off duty firefighter Angel Caquias was driving by when he spotted the fire. Caquias then alerted the residents and made sure everyone was safely out. Leger says the fire caused an estimated $15,000 in damage and appears to be accidental. Leger also tells ABC40 the family members declined Red Cross and will stay in the home.
