Cops on Top for Charity

WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) —     Police spent the day at Walmart in Westfield, but this was no routine patrol.

Officers are participating in “Cop on Top” — a fundraiser for the Special Olympics of Massachusetts.

This holiday season, you might notice officers standing on the roof of Walmart and other stores in the community.

They say they’ll keep climbing up until they reach their fundraising goal of $3,000.

Today, Officer Richard F. Connor told ABC40 this charity holds a very special place in his heart.

“As much money as we can raise to help these kids,” says Connor.

“They have a great time,” Connor adds. “I know my son loved it, he did it almost every year of his life.”

In addition to “Cop on Top,” the Holyoke Police Department is also wrapping up its “Movember” mustache drive. The money they raise while growing out their facial hair during the month of November will also go to the Special Olympics.
