Daylight Reveals Explosion Damage

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Friday night’s explosion scattered pieces of the Scores strip club all across the neighborhood. The blast heavily damaged buildings in the immediate area and shattered glass window in a several block radius.

Bricks can be found surrounding a pile of debris that included lottery tickets, beer cans, steel and wood.

Just a couple of blocks away,  Joe Spano and his tenants cleaned up the damage at a Pearl St. building.

“It’s pretty scary, actually pretty scary,” said Spano.

Columbia Gas workers checked up and down streets around the blast zone. They are opening up man holes and drilling small holes every ten to fifteen feet to get a reading of the gas level.

“We have been doing this continuously all night and we’ll continue to do it through the weekend actually,” said Sheila Doiron, Columbia Gas.

She says they will also be checking the gas line that runs from the street to the Scores building to see just what caused the explosion. Doiron says the investigation will take some time.
