SOUTHWICK, Mass. (WGGB) — Last night, former Holyoke mayor Dan Szostkiewicz was arrested for assault and battery inside his Southwick home.
Earlier this evening, ABC40 sat down with the former mayor to hear his side of the story.
Szostkiewicz says he was at a hockey game with his daughter when his ex-wife showed up at his home and started harassing their 14-year-old autistic son.
Szostkiewicz and his new wife have sole legal custody of the boy — who immediately called his father, asking for help.
“She’s not even supposed to be near my son and he asked her to leave,” says Szostkiewicz. “She wouldn’t leave and I had to race home, asked her to leave and did not lay a hand on the woman.”
Szostkiewicz added, “I had to escort her out the front door, but because of the statement she made to police I have an assault and battery charge against me at this point in time.”
Szostkiewicz was taken out of his home in handcuffs. His arraignment is scheduled for tomorrow morning in Westfield.
He says he plans to fight all criminal charges against him.

She’s actually not the monster he’s making her out to be..I know her too and he belongs in jail…he has no business having sole custody of that child

Too bad none of you know the real story. And know that there was a witness there …he is a terrible person and shouldn’t have custody of a freakin dog. He ABSOLUTELY put his hands on her and he’s a liar. I forgot though, just because you’re a lawyer means its OK to owe 30,000 in child support right? His exwife is a great mother and great woman and he’s.making her out to be the monster.. maybe someone should give him a drug test.

He is awful to that ex and has NO right to have sole custody!! and he is lying about no contact! and isnt that wife # 3 with him? seems like is wonderful!
The drain on our society is those who don’t understand family law but when a friend is involved everyone else is wrong & your friend is the victim!!! Massachusetts is a woman’s world when it comes to custody & if a JUDGE decides she is not fit it was for good reason… All both parties can do is plead their case then the JUDGE makes a ruling… You do not have to have a legal background to know this
He has sole custody because he is a LIAR and knows how to work the system because he’s a lawyer and doesn’t want to pay child support. Bottom line is this story is a bunch of ****

The story doesn’t mention he had his plates pulled for driving around in an unregistered car. Surely that is the ex wife’s fault as well.
That should be brought to the judges attention seeing as it has so much to do with this story. You people are living in crazy town & you cannot reason with crazy so have a great night
Their child should be the focus here. Have someone interview him then. He called his dad bc she wouldn’t leave and who knows what else was going on. Obviously this will go to court so we’ll eventually learn the outcome.

My only encounter with this Douche is when he was representing a child molester in a custody case. His guidance on how to lie didn’t work for his client and hopefully if he is guilty, his lies will fail again. I have no use for this vermin despite the facts of this case.
Janna the court system in Massachusetts is corrupt as it is everywhere. If you have the right attorney who is in the Judge’s back pocket, it is NOT a woman’s world. Abusive “fathers” get custody of children and the women pay THEM child support. The court system is overburdened and it’s who you know, not how good of a parent you are.
Yes the child called the father because his father brainwashed him so bad that the poor kid doesn’t know what to do he doesn’t know any better. And Janna it has a lot to do with the story it shows what kind of person he is..suspended registration and license 3 different homes in 3 years …real stable person. J
Say what you want…. Brainwashed or not…. She was trespassing…. Not in a court room doing it legally…. Why was she not arrested on trespassing charges?? Now she’ll try to use this in court as a reason to gain custody…. Ohh and btw I agree with the “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know thing” but if your a woman in Massachusetts and you DON’T get custody of the children, you must be a gem because Massachusetts falls at #3 behind Florida and California for worst areas for men to be divorced…..

Mr. Dan Szostkiewicz — Allow me to give you the very same message you gave me when I was in the exact same circumstances — “Women can do no harm. Period.”
In reality Dan, good men who have done no wrong and who have hurt no one, ever, are easy targets. All one need do is “claim” you have done wrong and no proof is needed. You can even have witnesses to defend and uphold the truth, but you are the man and thus “must” be wrong.
Try to remember what this feels like next time you’re in court room. And actually fight to defend justice.
