WESTFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Fire destroys a home in Westfield.

It started around 4:30 p.m. Sunday at 98 Bates Road at around 4:30pm Sunday.

Officials tell us one man was home when the fire started — he was able to make it out safely.

When crews arrived, flames had already engulfed the house.

It took several hours to put out the blaze. In fact, crews are still on scene putting out small hot spots.

The home is a total loss.

A fire marshal has been called in to investigate the cause.
