Man Arrested for Stealing Over 100 Guns from Smith & Wesson
STRATFORD, Conn. (WGGB) — A man has been arrested after he allegedly stole 111 handguns from the Smith and Wesson plant on Roosevelt Avenue earlier this month then sold them in Connecticut.
Stratford Police say that Elliot Perez was arrested Friday as part of an investigation by their department, Bridgeport Police, and the ATF.
Perez, who was a tractor-trailer driver for Pace Motor Lines, when allegedly stole 111 guns that were on a truck at the Springfield facility.
Police say that Perez then took the guns to Bridgeport, Conn. where some of the guns came into the possession of Michael Murphy.
Perez and Murphy allegedly sold an unknown number of the guns on the street.
Investigators were able to recover 28 of the 111 stolen guns.
Perez is facing a number of charges including with 111 counts of criminal possession of a firearm, 111 counts of theft of a firearm, and one count of illegal sale of a firearm. He is being held on $500,000 bond until a court appearance on December 6.
Murphy is also facing charges of criminal possession of a firearm, carrying a pistol without a permit, and theft of a firearm. He was released on $10,000 bond and is also due back in court on December 6.
