Fire at Greenfield Coffee Roasting Business Knocked Down

Greenfield, Mass. (WGGB) —  Firefighters in Greenfield were able to put out a fire Wednesday afternoon at a local coffee roasting business on Hope Street.

Emergency personnel received the call at 3:30 p.m.  for a fire at Pierce Brothers Coffee Roasters located at 76 Hope Street.

Upon their arrival firefighters discovered a small fire and were able to knock down the flames within a half hour.

According to Greenfield Fire Deputy Chief, Robert Strahan, the fire started in a roaster and the piping and then went into the wall.  As a result the business filled with heavy black smoke.

“There were workers in the building when we arrived and we were able to evacuate them.  One person was observed for smoke inhalation but was not transported,” says Strahan.

No one was injured in the incident.

Strahan adds that the fire was contained to the room it started in.

No word yet on estimated damages.
