WESTERN MASS. (WGGB) — One person is dead and many other hospitalized with injuries following three overnight accidents.
The first crash happened around 11:00 p.m. Friday near the corner of Cottage Street and Berkshire Avenue.
Police say a driver crossed over a double yellow lane marker, then hit an oncoming car head on. The drivers of each car were brought to Baystate Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
That section of Cottage St. and Berkshire Ave. was closed last night. It’s now back open.
Police believe alcohol may have been a factor. So far no arrests have been made.
The second crash happened on Morton Street in West Springfield, just before midnight Friday.
Police say a car went off the road, hit a service pole and flipped over — trapping four people inside. Police were on the scene moments later, and they were able to pull all four individuals from the vehicle.
One person was pronounced dead, two others were brought to the hospital with serious injuries. No updates have been released at this time.
Police say the crash downed power-lines, which shut down that section of Morton Street.
Hours later, another accident sent one more person to the hospital.
It happened a little after 3:00 am on Green Avenue in Belchertown.
Officials say a car lost control and flipped over — hitting two service poles in the process.
They say speed and road conditions were a factor.
The driver was the only occupant of the vehicle and sustained only minor injuries.
