Annual Hot Chocolate Run in Northampton

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) – Despite chilly temperatures and some heavy fog, thousands were out in Northampton on Sunday walking or running in the ninth annual Hot Chocolate Run.

The 5k walk/run raises money for Safe Passage, a Hampshire county non-profit agency addressing domestic violence. The event was started in 2004, and has been held every year since.

In 2011, 5,500 runners and walkers helped raise more than $165,000.

At the end of the race, walkers and runners were rewarded with a steaming cup of hot chocolate.
