“Gift of Light” Ceremony Held

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Monday evening was the annual “Gift of Light” Campaign for cancer support groups at Mercy Medical Center in Springfield.

The hospital sells lights on its Christmas tree with the proceeds helping to off-set the cost of educational and support programs for cancer patients and their families.

Monday night’s event began with a special tree lighting ceremony, and included prayers, speeches, and music.

Sisters of Providence CEO, Daniel Moen says, “Well this is a nice thing to do, for not only patients and families, for survivors and families, but also to remember those who have passed on. So it’s a real moment of remembrance for those family members and it’s a way to support cancer care going forward, which is very important to those folks as well.”

You can dedicate one light for $10, four for $35 or six for $50 in the Mercy Medical Center lobby.
