WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House is rejecting a Republican counteroffer aimed at averting the “fiscal cliff,” saying it does not meet what the White House calls “the test of balance.”
White House communications director Dan Pfeiffer says the GOP proposal would lower tax rates for the wealthy and stick the middle class with the bill. He says the plan includes nothing new and provides no details on how it would achieve higher revenues.
The House Republican plan calls for $800 billion in higher tax revenue over 10 years. But it would keep the Bush-era tax cuts in place for all income earners.
Obama has insisted there can be no deal unless Republicans agree to end the tax cuts for families making more than $250,000 a year when they expire in January.

I SOMETIME WONDER WHO’S THE DAMN PRESIDENT OBAMA OR BOEHNER.. WHY OBAMA ALLOWING BOEHNER TO DOG THE COUNTRY OUT AND DESTROY THIS COUNTRY.. SOMETHING HORRIBLE WRONG WHEN WE HAVE A MAN LIKE BOEHNER WHO HAVE MORE POWER THAN THE PRESIDENT TO DESTROY THE WEAK …
The GOP is playing the same games as always. Their proposal is 800 billion in higher tax revenue, keeping the Bush tax cuts, raising the eligibility age for Medicare and lowering cost-of-living hikes for Social Security.
Sounds wonderful right? Yet when pressed for exactly where that tax revenue increase comes from Boehner replied “Listen, what is this difference where the money comes from? We put $800 billion worth of revenue, which is what he’s asking for out of eliminating the top two tax rates.”
The GOP needs to stop wasting everyone’s time and start acting like adults.
Sounds about right. Take money from the poor so the wealthy can keep their tax breaks.
Maybe if 49% of the country actually paid taxes, we would be in better shape. Yea, let’s suck 50% of everyone over 250K and see what happens to the job market. Ask yourself this, what will happen at the business you work at if the owner has 15 to 20% less capital each month to work with. Lay offs. It’s not rocket science. What happens if we jack up the capital gains? People stop investing!
Did you post this on your Obamaphone?
It baffles me as to how anyone can justify higher taxes unless we start controlling out spending first. We don’t have a revenue problem, we have a spending problem. Stop with the free phones, free housing, foreign aid and frivolous spending.
They are laying off now Jeffery, so if they are allowed these tax cuts and aren’t using it to hire or invest in businesses, then why should they be allowed to keep the tax cuts. You want to keep the tax cuts? Fine. Introduce a law where any money you receive from tax cuts must be spent on certain business improvements. Opening new locations, new equipment, pay increases for anyone making under 50K a year, benefits for employees, hiring new employees. If you don’t spend the tax money on those items, you don’t get the tax cut.
As for the free phones…. You want people on Welfare and Food Stamps to get off of public assistance, correct? To get employed you have to have a phone correct? Now you don’t want to give people on public assistance phones? So explain to me exactly how you expect them to get employment if you don’t give them a phone? Require them to use some of the welfare to pay for a phone? Why not have the govt provide them a phone?
People complain but they don’t think of the larger picture.
My mistake. I didn’t realize that the millions of free cell phones people automatically qualify for if they are poor are all being used for job searches. Sounds just as stupid when say it too. The government collects over 2 trillion a year in revenue Rene. If you truly believe we aren’t wasting enough of that to eliminate the deficit you are …. I won’t resort to name calling, but we disagree. I’m all for helping someone out with a temp cell phone during a job search, but you know damn well that is the exception not the norm.
No business in existence is going to expand its work force unless there is a demand, but every business in existence must reduce its workforce if they don’t have the capital for payroll.
