SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A substitute teacher at Kennedy Middle School in Springfield is being charged with Assault and Battery.
Chandi Jones is accused of pushing and kicking a student in early November.
On November 9 we spoke with the student and her mother to discuss the alleged assault.
“I am afraid for her to go to school,” said Tracy Christiansen, mother.
Tracy’s daughter Kalye told us Chandi Jones got upset with her when she was out of her seat during science class on November 7 at the Kennedy Middle School.
“She said she was gonna hit me, that she was gonna get people like her son and her daughter to hit me. She was pushing me, while she was pushing me she kicked me in my leg,” said Kayle Christiansen.
According to police, the school’s principal told them she knew Jones had lost her temper with the student but didn’t have any knowledge of a physical assault.
Springfield Schools Chief Communications Officer Azell Cavaan told us there was a full investigation of the allegations and as a result disciplinary action was taken against the substitute teacher. She wouldn’t provide any specific details about the disciplinary action though.
Jones is scheduled to be arraigned in court next month.

That’s bull****!! I don’t care how bad a kid is in school!! We put our trust in these teachers and should feel safe sending our children to school…not worry about a teacher putting there hands on a student esp a middle school…..if that was my kid, that teacher would be facing more then what she got…and anyone who condons this needs to be home schooled if u know what I mean!
Teacher or student! We are fighting a never ending battle when it comes to bullys, I can’t belive the first few comments that think this is ok!

Were they in the room alone? So I’m sure there were witnesses to what happened.
There’s no excuse for that sub, better ways to handle that situation, threatening a child, kicking her cuz she was out of her seat really? There has to be more to this story than what is being written. Where are the witnesses?
I DONT CARE HOW BAD A KID IS YOU STILL DONT PUT YOUR HANDS ON A CHILD THAT’S NOT YOURS YOU SEND THEM TO THE PRINCIPALS OFFICE WHERE A PARENT CAN BE NOTIFY IF THIS WAS MY CHILD ID HAVE TO WHOOP SOME ***
