WORCESTER, Mass. (AP) — A witness says a teenage girl lost part of her leg after a freight train struck her in Worcester while she tried to grab a train ladder as it passed.
Witness Jason Desrosiers told the Telegram & Gazette that the girl was pulled off her feet Tuesday and one of her legs fell beneath the car.
Desrosiers said part of the girl’s leg was severed and she remained conscious. He said he ran to help, then called 911 at the urging of two friends of the girl.
The accident happened near the Greendale Mall on tracks separated from a parking lot by a fence. The paper reports there’s a hole in the fence near where the girl was struck, and the area is used as a shortcut.
The accident remained under investigation Tuesday.

Trains can’t stop on a dime! Girl thought train was going slow. Girl not quick
I can never understand how someone can get hit by a train!
cause it just sneaks up on you!
yea real funny, if any of you have children you think about it. like none of us ever did something stupid as a kid. that is my step daughters BEST friend, and shes like an unofficially adopted in our house, i knew id see comments i didnt agree with, but NOTHING of this ignorance, children make mistakes. so do adults, stupid comments like this make me sick, how about hey did she survive? hows her family doing, you people make me SICK.
I actually lost an uncle to a train a couple years ago in spfld. Decapitated. I said the same thing then. You can have the same opinion even when you are directly affected by it. How could such a thing happen? I still wonder to this day.
well yea, so then you would know its NOT a laughing matter to post “humorus” comments about. im sorry your uncle lost his life, thankfully she didnt. we have people calling left and right, ive kicked a TV reporter off my porch. its just a pretty bad time, so did i over-react a little? sure. BUT that doesnt make joking comments like i see here any less dispicable!
I definitely did things as teen without realizing the repercussions! I’m so glad she’s ok. That’s what counts. I hope her spirits are ok too. Please tell her people are pulling for her!
well, im not gonna put out too much family business but yea, she is going to live. dont know about mental state, yea, got a small army pushin for her. basically 2 families as well. when things calm a little id love to go thank Mr. Desrosiers for his involvement and the care and concern he he showed for a complete stranger, i wish more people could be like him.
