Cherington Downplays Ellsbury Rumors

Nashville, TN (WGGB) — Rumors of a potential trade involving Jacoby Ellsbury have been on many tongues throughout New England in recent days.  And they’ve been perhaps even more prevalent in Nashville, for the MLB Winter Meetings.

But Red Sox General Manager Ben Cherington says Ellsbury will be a “huge part of what we’re doing” in 2013, according to a report from WEEI.

“You answer the phone and take the calls and listen to ideas. Our expectation is Jacoby will be here and be our center fielder,” said Cherington.

Cherington did admit, however, that there was a level of interest, around the league, in Ellsbury.  He wouldn’t go into further detail, though, about how much interest.
