Springfield Police Search for Naked Jogger

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — A buff jogger has Springfield Police on the lookout.

To be more specific, this particular jogger likes to run in the buff.

On this unusually mild Wednesday morning along Roosevelt Avenue, the vast majority taking in the balmy air were appropriately dressed.

Most chose the proper attire, but one man chose no attire at all.

“People commuting on their way to work were greeted by a man that was…what was the terminology they used to use? Streaking or running, jogging…nothing on, no shoes..nothing,” says Springfield Police Sgt. John Delaney.

“Oh, that was funny. I proceed to laugh. [You’re wearing clothes] Yea. [Do you always wear your clothes outside] Oh yea,” adds one Springfield resident.

But the naked truth is, the man, believed to be in his 50’s, has done it before – making it a habit of stripping down and strolling around, and that has kept 911 operators busy

“A lot of it is concern. They’re wondering why this guy is doing it. It’s not July and it’s December and the guys running with no clothes on,” Delaney adds.

If Roscoe Washington of Springfield saw the risque runner, “I think I would grab my trench coat and tackle him and cover him up before any of the kids could see it.”

Waiting to charge him with gross lewdness, Springfield Police will stay on his tail

Delaney says, “I’m sure he will pop out again. If he does, give 911 a call and hopefully we will get him this time.”

When asked if anyone has gotten a picture of the guy, Delaney says, “No haven’t seen that…don’t want to see that.

Police say that anyone who spots the naked jogger should immediately call 911.
