Truck Hits Hampden Utility Pole, Knocks Out Power

HAMPDEN, Mass. (WGGB) — A crash in Hampden knocked out power to some customers in two towns and sent a driver to the hospital.

Hampden Police say that around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, a pickup truck was heading down Allen Street near the East Longmeadow/Hampden line, when the driver lost control, flipped the truck, and hit a utility.

The driver of the truck, whose name has not been released, was taken to Baystate Medical Center with minor injuries.

The crash split the utility, causing power lines to come down. Hundreds of customers were without power for much of the afternoon, but National Grid spokesperson Debbie Drew says that all customers were restored by 4:45 p.m.

The accident remains under investigation.
