Fire that Damaged Palmer Home Ruled Accidental

PALMER, Mass. (WGGB) — Fire investigators in Palmer have found the cause of Thursday night’s blaze that destroyed a home and left a family of five running for safety.

The fire started on the second floor just before 9:00 Thursday night.

All occupants, including two family pets, were able to get out before the fire consumed the Fox Street home.

Palmer’s fire chief is labeling the fire “accidental.”

“The cause was some type of oil, tiki lamp that got knocked over. The occupants were unable to extinguish the fire. [The fire] caught a blanket. They threw the blanket out of the top floor, but there was too much fluid on the second floor to extinguish it. They couldn’t get the fire out,” adds Palmer Fire Chief Alan Roy

Palmer Fire received mutual aid from the Monson Fire Department and others to keep the fire from spreading to nearby homes.
