Fire Crews Ordered Out of Burning Springfield Home

Springfield, Mass (WGGB) – Fire crews were called out of a burning two family home on Northampton Avenue.

It happened around 9:30 a.m. at 184-186 Northampton Avenue.

Firefighters say it looks like the blaze started in the first floor of the home.

The family made it out of the home safely, but a firefighter was injured trying to put out the blaze.

“I want to say there’s $100,000+ damage there. There’s a lot of damage there, not counting their personal things and one firefighter suffered some burns to the side of his face and his ear. He got transported to Baystate Medical Center. We’re unclear on the severity of the burns,” says Dennis Leger, aide to Springfield Fire Commissioner Joseph Conant.

The family of 10 is getting assistance from the Red Cross.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
