NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WGGB) – Police have identified the victim of a Friday night crash as an Amherst woman.

The Northwestern District Attorney’s office says that 60-year-old Janet Bloom of Amherst died in a two-car crash that happened around 5:15 p.m. Friday.

Northampton Police Sgt. Joseph Barszcz says that a car was traveling north on Route 5 when it swerved into the southbound lane.

Bloom was the driver of that northbound car. She was taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other car, 29-year-old Meagan Kwiecinski of Easthampton, was also taken to Cooley Dickinson Hospital, where she was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation by Northampton Police and troopers assigned to the Northwestern District Attorney’s office.
