The Westfield News reports a man who works near the scene called police at 12:30 p.m. Monday to say he had found what appeared to be a body while he was taking a walk during his lunch break.
Police said the body was found between a commercial building on Lockhouse Road and the track. They said the woman, who appeared to be in her 70s, had been dead for several hours, if not for days.
Police Officer Terry Manos said there were no obvious signs of trauma, and she was not dressed for a long stay outside in cool weather.
Detective Lt. David Ragazzini said they had no reports of a missing woman fitting her description.
