HADLEY, Mass. (WGGB) – A UMass student is in the ICU at Baystate Medical Center after colliding with a car on his bicycle in Hadley Wednesday afternoon.

Around 3:15 p.m. Wednesday, Hadley Police Sgt. Damion Shanley says that Aidan Stone, 21, was coming down the hill on North Maple Street towards the intersection with Rocky Hill Road.

Shanley says that the preliminary investigation indicates that the bike was coming into the intersection around the same time a car had a green light while was coming west on Rocky Hill Road and the two collided.

The driver reportedly told police that the sun was in her eyes and she couldn’t see the bike, according to Shanley.

Police are still investigating the accident.
