MGM Springfield Makes City’s Holiday Brighter

Holiday-Christmas3SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WGGB) — Wednesday night was Court Square’s tree lighting event, and MGM Springfield representatives were there to help.

The city hadn’t been able to decorate like they do every year because of destruction caused by the June first tornado, so MGM took the opportunity to plant a new tree.

They say it’s symbolic.

“What I wanted to do was plant a tree that grows,” said MGM Springfield CEO Jim Murran.  ”That’s what I want MGM to be here in Springfield, a company that grows.  We plant our roots here.  We’re going to be here a long, long time.”

“That’s going to be our new tree from now on,” said Spirit of Springfield President Judy Matt.  ”We want all of our residents to be proud of it.”

In addition to the tree lighting, Santa made an appearance and everyone was able to enjoy hot chocolate and cookies.
